In alignment with its Sustainability Policy, Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) is committed to advancing energy-efficient practices as part of its strategic objectives. As part of the Core Area, “Energy-Efficient Renovation and Building,” and specifically Strategic Action 1.2.3, the University has prioritized regular energy audits. These audits follow the Department of Energy (DOE) guidelines to uncover areas for improvement and ensure energy-efficient practices are consistently updated and sustained.
Leading the charge, University Electrical Engineer Mark Nel Inojosa recently initiated a comprehensive review of university facilities. The focus of this review was to pinpoint where energy wastage is most significant, ensuring MSEUF’s resources are optimized. During this assessment, multiple areas were identified, with the university's lighting system emerging as a significant source of inefficiency. As an immediate intervention, defective and outdated lamps were replaced with energy-saving LED fixtures. This change aims to substantially reduce energy consumption and minimize waste while maintaining the required luminance standards for various campus areas.
The University’s commitment to energy efficiency extends beyond current practices. In preparation for full compliance with Republic Act 11285, also known as the "Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act," MSEUF plans to send Engr. Inojosa for training and certification as a Certified Energy Manager.
This step will further empower the University to meet national energy efficiency standards and ensure it is well-prepared for annual energy audits authorized by the DOE. These audits will be instrumental in establishing a baseline for the University’s energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
Through these proactive measures, MSEUF continues to demonstrate its dedication to creating a sustainable campus environment while aligning with both national regulations and its own strategic vision for environmental responsibility.
