A recently held seminar for first-year students at Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) focused on the importance of aligning personal skills, values, and interests with their chosen college courses and future careers, Oct. 10.

The activity, organized by the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), forms part of the University’s commitment to preparing students for meaningful academic and professional journeys.

A total of 427 first-year students attended the event, which centered on the development of both soft and hard skills—key competencies that students are encouraged to cultivate throughout their university life. These foundational skills serve as a head start for their future careers and contribute to their overall growth.

Kim Chua, Managing Director of Jobs180.com, delivered the keynote address titled “Building Essential Skills and Characteristics Towards Career Success.” In his talk, Chua highlighted the importance of personal values and work ethics in shaping long-term career success.

Speaking to a Gen Z audience, he reminded students that technical knowledge must go hand in hand with collaboration and professionalism.

“In whatever organization you choose to be a part of, remember that all of them demand a combination of technical knowledge and strong work ethics,” Chua said. “This is the ingredient that allows every worker to grow and excel in their professional lives.”

The seminar is part of OSAS' ongoing initiatives to help students set realistic goals, make informed decisions, and plan their careers with clarity and confidence.
