Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation held its third Monday flag-raising ceremony, as part of its continuing observance of National Heritage Month, gathering administrators, deans, faculty members, employees, students and members of the surrounding community in a meaningful celebration of patriotism and cultural pride, May 18.
The ceremony opened with the Entrance of Colors by female cadet officers of the College of Maritime Education, whose disciplined presentation set a solemn tone for the program. The MSEUF Concert Singers led the invocation, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the university hymn, “Maroon and White.”
The heritage-themed flag ceremonies form part of the university’s month-long celebration of National Heritage Month in response to the call of the Commission on Higher Education and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. Anchored on the theme “Roots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future,” the observance aims to deepen appreciation of Filipino culture, history and identity among members of the academic community.
Dario Opistan, vice president for administration, emphasized the importance of National Heritage Month as a celebration of the values, legacy and identity that define the Filipino people.
Opistan discussed the symbolism of the Philippine flag, explaining that blue represents peace, truth and justice; red signifies patriotism and valor; the white triangle stands for equality and fraternity; and the golden sun and three stars symbolize freedom and the unity of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
He also reminded the university community to accord proper respect to the national flag and to raise it with dignity and reverence.
Beyond the flag’s symbolism, Opistan encouraged Envergans to take pride in their Filipino identity and embody the enduring values of resilience, integrity, unity and love of country. He said heritage lives not only in historical memory, but also in the character and actions of every Filipino.
Opistan also highlighted the legacy of university founder Manuel Enverga, describing him as a visionary educator, entrepreneur and public servant who built the institution on hard work, patriotism, service and faith in the potential of Filipino youth.
Through the ceremony, MSEUF reminded the community that National Heritage Month is not only a commemoration of the past, but also a continuing call to live out the values that make the Filipino spirit strong and enduring.
The activity reflected MSEUF’s commitment to transformative education by nurturing students and employees who value heritage, identity and responsible citizenship. It also upheld the core values of Mindfulness, Unity, Excellence and Service as the university community came together to honor the nation, celebrate Filipino culture and remember the legacy of its founder.
