CAS opens new communication laboratory

Expanding hands-on learning opportunities in communication and digital media production, the College of Arts and Sciences of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation formally opened its newly constructed communication laboratory through a ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing on Aug. 25 at the AEC Building.

The ceremony began at 8:30 a.m. and brought together Dr. Claudia Odette Ayala, acting vice president for academics and research and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Atty. Dario Opistan, senior vice president for administration; Vice President for External Relations Celso Jaballa; Dr. Carmina Tolentino, director of University Laboratories; Jennifer Sanchez, dean of the College of Architecture and Fine Arts; Fr. Ferdinand Maaño; Languages and Humanities faculty members; and members of the MSEUF Communication Society.

In her welcome remarks, Dr. Ayala explained that the long-planned project was developed to provide a larger communication laboratory that can respond to students’ current needs amid the continuing shift toward digital technology.

The facility will support students in producing media-related outputs while developing their communication, technical and ideation skills. It is also intended to provide practical learning experiences that can help prepare communication students for careers in the media and communication industry.

Beyond serving communication students, the laboratory will provide opportunities for students from other University programs to work on media-related academic outputs and develop competencies relevant to digital content production.

The opening of the facility strengthened the College of Arts and Sciences’ capacity to provide technology-supported and experiential learning opportunities responsive to the evolving demands of communication and media practice.

The new communication laboratory supported the University’s commitment to learning by doing, student-centered education and excellence in teaching by providing students with a dedicated space for practical media production and communication training. The facility also advances MSEUF’s vision of global competitiveness by strengthening technical, creative and communication competencies relevant to contemporary professional practice.
