Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF), through the Research Publication, Incubation, and Utilization Center (RPIUC) and the Human Resource Department (HRD) in collaboration with the Intellectual Property of the Philippines (IPOPHL) conducted a three-day training on Intellectual Property (IP) and Patent Search from Feb. 11-13.
Expert speakers from the IPOPHIL Engr. Wilfredo Calaguan, Engr. Maria Concepcion Zabala, and Ms. Joyce Nodado led the sessions, guiding participants through the complexities of intellectual property rights and their applications.
Engr. Zabala highlighted the importance of securing IP rights, referencing the well-known phrase from No Other Woman: "Ang mundo ay isang malaking Quiapo, maraming snatcher. Maagawan ka!," where she emphasized that proper IP protection safeguards innovations from unauthorized use and ensures rightful recognition and ownership.
A key component of the training was the hands-on patent searching workshop, where participants applied their learning to identify existing patents and assess the uniqueness of their potential innovations. At the end of the training, participants took an examination to evaluate their understanding and successfully conducted individual and group patent searches, reinforcing their skills in navigating patent databases.
Faculty members and employees from various departments participated, gaining valuable insights into the patent search process and the significance of IP protection in academic and professional settings.
The training provided MSEUF researchers, artists, and inventors with essential knowledge on intellectual property fundamentals, covering patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, and utility models.
"Through initiatives like this, MSEUF continues to empower its researchers, faculty, and inventors by fostering a culture of innovation and intellectual property protection. By equipping participants with the tools and knowledge to secure their creative and scientific contributions, the university strengthens its commitment to research excellence and innovation," RPIUC Director Engr. Roselyn A. Maaño said.
