Banyuhay Dance Troupe marks 26th anniversary with ‘Tamalaya’ concert
The Banyuhay Dance Troupe of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation celebrated its 26th founding anniversary with a dance concert titled “Tamalaya: Uphold Respect, Thrive in Success, and Embrace Love through Dance” at the MSEUF Gymnasium, May 10.
The concert featured a succession of traditional folk dances and interpretative modern pieces, showcasing the troupe’s discipline and cultural advocacy. Performers moved through themes of Filipino identity, social values, and human connection. Audience members filled the venue and responded with loud applause throughout the program.
“The essence of ‘Tamalaya’ is about expressing love, respect, and strength through movement,” said Dance Troupe Adviser Sir Keyvin Amo. “We wanted to show how dance can build community and reflect shared values.”
The show included signature Filipino dances such as Tinikling, Sayaw sa Bangko, and Singkil, as well as original contemporary choreographies developed by members of the troupe. Interpretative dance performances addressed themes such as personal growth, overcoming hardship, and honoring cultural heritage.
“Dancing with Banyuhay has shaped how I understand discipline, creativity, and unity,” said Dance Troupe Adviser Liezl Villadiego. “Being part of this group means more than performance—it’s about preserving our culture.”
The anniversary concert affirmed the University's educational philosophy of holistic student development through the arts. It also supported the University’s mission to produce socially responsible graduates and its vision of global competitiveness grounded in cultural identity.
