Knowledge, Awareness, and Compliance of Nursing Students toward Hepatitis B Vaccine

Completed2023

Abstract

Hepatitis B is a blood-borne viral liver disease caused by the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), and immunization is the most effective way to avoid it. Nursing students are at a higher risk of developing HBV due to work exposure. As a result, it is critical for all nursing students to be well-versed in HBV and to have their Hepatitis B virus vaccinations completed. This study aimed to determine the knowledge, awareness, and compliance of nursing students toward the Hepatitis B vaccine. In conducting the study, the researchers used a descriptive quantitative research design, particularly, a descriptive, evaluative, comparative, and correlational approach. The researchers used survey questionnaires which includes questions that determined the demographic data, knowledge, awareness, and compliance of the students toward the Hepatitis B vaccine. The researchers analyzed the data using advanced statistical tools such as advanced Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U Test. The study was composed of 100 respondents, 25 respondents from each year level using a stratified purposive sampling method. Results show that the respondents have shown that they are strongly knowledgeable, very aware, and very much compliant with the Hepatitis B vaccine. Kruskal-Wallis H and Mann-Whitney U depict that the knowledge, awareness, and compliance were not statistically significant to the respondents' demographic profile. The correlation analysis reveals that there is a significant relationship between knowledge, awareness, and compliance of nursing students towards the Hepatitis B vaccine based on Pearson. As for the implication of this study, it is to improve and/or maintain the knowledge, awareness, and compliance of nursing students toward the Hepatitis B vaccine.
