Coping Strategies of Bangkeros Amidst the Pandemic: A Case of Cagbalete Island

Abstract

Cagbalete Island in Mauban, Quezon Province is one of the cleanest and nicest beaches in Luzon, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the municipality ordered a temporarily lockdown of the island amidst the pandemic that resulted to the bangkeros to lose their jobs. With that, the main purpose of this study was to identify the impacts of the pandemic. Phenomenological approach was used in this study that was focused on the commonality of a lived experience within a particular group. The participants for this non-probability study were carefully chosen eleven (11) selected Bangkeros of Cagbalete Island through the process called purposive sampling. Findings of the study shows that the bangkeros have greatly affected by the pandemic and one of the greatly impact was losing their jobs amidst pandemic that resulted to them to worrisome for the needs of their families. In conclusion it is necessary for the local government unit to produce a program that would help the bangkeros to cope amidst the pandemic.
