Job Displacement and Earnings Loss: Evidence from the Displaced Workers of Selected Hotels and Restaurants in Lucena City due to Covid-19 Pandemic

Abstract

This study determined the effects of job displacement and earnings loss evidence from the displaced workers of selected hotels and restaurants In Lucena City. It also analyzes the experiences of the workers after being displaced and focuses on how the workers address the problems associated with job displacement and determine how the establishments give extended support and opportunities to the workers to be re-employed during these uncertain times. The researchers used research questionnaires surveys and interviews. This used descriptive research design, mixed-method approach, purposive sampling, and snowball sampling methodology, and used a self-structured questionnaire to gathered data. The study composed of 105 respondents. As the result, it indicates that displaced workers have been seriously affected by the displacement having no income leads to changes in how they manage financially. Displaced workers had been maximizing the use of finances since they do not have the capabilities to provide consistently for the everyday basis additionally it creates changes in how they interact with others. To cope up with the situation, the majority of the respondents employ strategies such as establishing a small business to meet their financial needs, as well as surrounding themselves with positive people to prevent being stressed causes of being displaced. The establishment support needs to provide financial aid as tangible to assist displaced workers from financial losses.
