WCDEO shares design expertise on student-led AI-powered Canva workshop

Web Content and Digital Engagement Officer John Rover Sinag led an “AI-Powered Canva Proficiency” seminar-workshop at Dalubhasaan ng Lungsod ng Lucena in Lucena City to help student leaders speed design workflows with AI while applying core design principles, Oct. 3.

Forty members of the DLL Alliance of Student Assistants and IT Paradigm, two accredited student organizations in DLL, participated in the event.

The seminar-workshop focused on Canva’s AI tools and how they expedite design tasks, while applying design core principles such as contrast, balance, emphasis, repetition, proximity, and white space - which all keep design outputs clear and professional.

“You should not only know how to use a design software, but you should be able to apply the core design principles on your works,” Sinag said.

“That will be the focus of our workshop today because you are all experienced in using Canva but are you able to apply design principles?,” Sinag added, challenging the participants.

Sinag closed by running a timed activity so students could apply the principles with Canva’s AI features, then he critiqued and revised selected outputs to reinforce learning.

This outreach supported MSEUF’s mission to deliver transformative, student-centered, outcomes-oriented learning by pairing practical AI tools with foundational design theory. It reflected Excellence through rigorous critique, Service by supporting a partner institution, and Unity as students collaborated to improve real outputs.
