Perceived Effectiveness of Online Tutorial Videos in Teaching and Learning Algebra among Grade 9 Students and Teachers

Abstract

Currently, the online tutorial intervention in distance learning has increased its use and application in the teaching and learning processes. This study aimed to determine the perceived effectiveness of online tutorial videos in teaching and learning algebra among grade 9 students and teachers. The research design that the researcher used in this study is the quantitative research design which emphasizes the objective measurements and numerical analysis of data gathered. Purposive sampling is the instrument used in collecting the data conducted on one of the schools in the district of Lucena. Respondents were 70 grade 9 students and 9 teachers who are presently teaching algebra. The data-gathering process was conducted with the use of a Google form that contains the questions that the respondents answered. Furthermore, three research questions are formulated to examine the effectiveness of online tutorial videos specifically, the perceptions, perceived effectiveness, and challenges encountered by the teachers and students. This study compares the responses between the two groups using a t-test, this statistical test is used to analyze the difference between the means of these two groups. Results indicated the perceived effectiveness, perceptions, and challenges encountered by both respondents. However, there was no significant difference between the responses of the two groups.
