Effectiveness of Project-Based Learning in Teaching Kasaysayan ng Daigdig to improve Grade 8 Students’ Critical Thinking Skills

Abstract

Project-based learning is a kind of teaching method in which students are able to gain knowledge and skills once they have engaged in an activity for a long period of time. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness and attitudes of the learners through learning history in order to developed their critical thinking skills. Specifically, this study used a purposive sampling method in order to have a focus result and determined who, where and what would be the best for this research. Learning history is one of the many subjects that will help learners boost learners critical thinking skills. It determined the effectiveness and attitudes that learners gained through experiences and active participation. In order to show a commendable result, the researcher used grade 8 students as a respondent and created a survey questionnaire as a tool in gathering data. With the participation of 30 respondents, the researcher administered and gathered result that supported the study. In this study, it was disclosed that majority of the respondents is female and possesses skill essential to developing critical thinking skills. A total general weighted mean of 4.07 shows that project method is an effective teaching strategy to develops critical thinking skill of learners and a total general weighted mean of 4.12 revealed that learner’s attitude learning history through project-based learning helps their critical thinking skills active. Thus, the researcher recommended that the beneficiary of this research must have a focus and awareness to their surrounding from the learners, teachers and future researcher.
