Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) strengthened its contribution to local arts and cultural heritage in 2025 through folk dance presentations, theatrical productions, choral performances, instrumental music, and community cultural activities.
Through its performing arts groups, including the Banyuhay Dance Troupe, Concert Singers, Chamberwinds, and Pleyhaws, the University participated in cultural celebrations, artistic competitions, and performances that showcased Filipino creativity and artistic expression.
These initiatives reflected MSEUF's commitment to promoting the arts, developing students' creative talents, and contributing to the preservation and appreciation of cultural traditions within and beyond the University.
Promoting Filipino folk dance and cultural traditions
On May 22, 2025, the MSEUF Banyuhay Dance Troupe earned the championship title at the Sayaw sa Bithay Folkdance Competition during Pasayahan sa Lucena 2025.
The troupe's participation highlighted the University's involvement in a local cultural celebration that promotes traditional Filipino dances and community appreciation of the performing arts.
MSEUF further supported cultural engagement through Sayaw Kalilayan, a two-day cultural seminar-workshop held Sept. 13–14, 2025, in Catanauan, Quezon.
The event brought together more than 400 performers and guests for activities centered on Filipino folk dance and cultural appreciation. The gathering provided opportunities for cultural learning, artistic exchange, and the presentation of traditional dance forms.
These activities demonstrated the University's continuing participation in programs that promote appreciation of Filipino folk traditions and provide opportunities for cultural engagement.
Strengthening theatrical expression and performance
MSEUF also contributed to the performing arts through Pleyhaws, the University's theater group.
In May 2025, Pleyhaws staged a theatrical production of Juan Tamban, contributing to the University's performing arts activities.
The production provided a platform for theatrical expression and demonstrated the University's support for student participation in live performance.
Theater activities such as Juan Tamban form part of MSEUF's efforts to sustain creative opportunities for its student performers while encouraging engagement with the dramatic arts.
Showcasing music and dance during National Arts Month
On Feb. 28, 2025, MSEUF celebrated National Arts Month through performances featuring the University's Chamberwinds, Concert Singers, and Banyuhay Dance Troupe.
The activity brought together musical and dance performances as part of the University's recognition of artistic creativity and cultural expression.
Through the participation of its performing groups, MSEUF provided opportunities to showcase students' musical and artistic abilities and contribute to the University's cultural activities.
The performances also highlighted the role of university-based artistic organizations in sustaining an environment that values creativity, collaboration, and cultural appreciation.
Advancing excellence in choral performance
The MSEUF Concert Singers represented the University in the 2025 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA).
On Sept. 21, 2025, the University reported the group's success in the regional semifinals, demonstrating its participation in a nationally recognized music competition.
The achievement reflected the ensemble's commitment to musical excellence and its contribution to the University's performing arts representation beyond the campus.
Through competitions and other musical activities, the Concert Singers continued to showcase the artistic capabilities of Envergan performers while contributing to broader cultural engagement.
Supporting creative expression through contemporary dance
On April 29, 2025, the MSEUF Banyuhay Dance Troupe staged UMBRA, a dance concert held at the University Gymnasium.
The production provided a performance opportunity for the troupe and contributed to the University's 2025 cultural activities.
Together with its participation in folk dance competitions and cultural programs, the concert demonstrated the troupe's involvement in different forms of dance performance.
These initiatives supported MSEUF's efforts to provide platforms for artistic expression and strengthen appreciation of dance as part of the University's cultural life.
Sustaining the University's contribution to local arts
MSEUF's documented cultural activities in 2025 demonstrate its participation in folk dance, choral music, instrumental performance, theater, and contemporary dance.
The University's artistic groups contributed to local festivals, cultural workshops, competitions, and university-based performances, extending the reach of their activities across different audiences and venues.
These activities also supported MSEUF's educational philosophy of learning by doing, giving students opportunities to apply their talents, discipline, creativity, and collaborative skills through performance.
The available reports document several cultural activities during the year. However, a consolidated annual performance inventory is necessary to establish the exact number of performances that were open to the general public.
Contribution to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
MSEUF's performing arts initiatives contributed to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by promoting artistic expression, cultural participation, and appreciation of Filipino traditions.
These activities align with Indicator 11.2.5 of the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings, which evaluates universities' contributions to local arts through public performances by university choirs, theater groups, orchestras, and similar performing arts organizations.
The University's documented performances and cultural engagements in 2025 demonstrate its continuing contribution to the local arts sector. Verification of the number of qualifying public performances and their accessibility is necessary to establish the applicable scoring category under the indicator.
Through its continued involvement in cultural celebrations, performing arts productions, and artistic competitions, MSEUF upheld its institutional values of Mindfulness, Service, Excellence, Unity, and Fortitude while supporting the role of higher education in sustaining local arts and cultural heritage.
