Enverga University expands community access to knowledge through Aklatanihan Adopt-a-Library Program

SDGSDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) strengthened community access to books, publications, and educational resources through its Aklatanihan: Adopt-a-Library Program, an initiative of the MSEUF University Libraries that supports the development of libraries in schools and local communities.

Through book donations, library adoption partnerships, and professional support, the program aims to improve the availability of learning materials and strengthen library services beyond the University campus.

The initiative reflects MSEUF's commitment to community service, educational inclusion, and lifelong learning by extending institutional resources and library expertise to partner institutions.

Strengthening community library resources through book donations

On June 3, 2025, MSEUF University Libraries donated books intended for the Perez Municipal Library in Quezon Province.

Darnyll Jarumahum of the Quezon Provincial Library formally received the donated materials for onward delivery to the municipal library.

The initiative supported efforts to strengthen the availability of reading and reference materials in a community library setting.

By contributing books to a municipal library, MSEUF supported the development of educational resources intended to benefit local readers. Verification of the materials' incorporation into the library collection and applicable public access arrangements would further establish the initiative's contribution to community library use.

Expanding educational partnerships through school library adoption

On Aug. 15, 2025, the MSEUF University Libraries team, led by Dr. Myrna Casipit, together with Aisa Zeta and Kim Davis De Leon, visited Salinas Elementary School to deliver donated books and formalize its participation in the Aklatanihan Program.

The University and the school signed a Memorandum of Agreement establishing Salinas Elementary School as the 20th adopted school under the initiative.

The partnership demonstrated the program's continuing implementation and MSEUF's engagement with educational institutions seeking to strengthen their library resources and services.

Through the adoption arrangement, the University extended support to the partner school's library development efforts, contributing learning materials and institutional expertise to support its educational environment.

Supporting school library development in Macalelon

On Dec. 4, 2025, MSEUF University Libraries continued its community resource-sharing activities through a book donation to Macalelon High School Inc.

School Principal Donata Cadag received the donated materials, which supported the institution's library resources, accreditation preparations, and students' learning needs.

The activity formed part of the University's continuing efforts to assist partner schools in developing their collections and improving the availability of educational resources.

Together, the 2025 activities at Perez Municipal Library, Salinas Elementary School, and Macalelon High School Inc. demonstrated MSEUF's implementation of library support initiatives across municipal and school settings.

Promoting community engagement and access to learning resources

The Aklatanihan Adopt-a-Library Program demonstrates how university libraries can extend their educational role beyond serving enrolled students and faculty members.

By sharing books and supporting library development, MSEUF contributes resources that partner institutions can use to improve their collections and learning environments.

The program also establishes opportunities for cooperation among university librarians, school administrators, and community library representatives.

While the documented activities demonstrate support for library resources, the available reports do not specify whether members of the general public may freely access the donated collections or must apply for reader privileges.

Further documentation of these arrangements would help establish the extent of public access supported by the initiative.

Contribution to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

The Aklatanihan Adopt-a-Library Program contributes to the broader objectives of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by strengthening educational resources and supporting community institutions that promote access to knowledge and lifelong learning.

The initiative is relevant to Indicator 11.2.2 of the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings, which evaluates universities' provision of public access to libraries, including books and publications.

MSEUF's documented 2025 contributions to a municipal library and two school libraries demonstrate the University's commitment to extending library resources beyond its campus.

The University's support for Perez Municipal Library is particularly relevant to the indicator because of the library's community-oriented function. Howev
