University Heritage Spaces and Community Access

SDGSDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation connects its institutional history and local heritage with community engagement through the University Gymnasium and Casa Segunda, with documented free access to the gymnasium during the PRISAA Quezon Cluster Meet 2025.

University Gymnasium: A longstanding campus landmark

The University’s published milestones record the construction of the gymnasium in June 1959, following the acquisition of land in Ibabang Dupay in March 1957. The gymnasium formed part of the early development of the University Site, alongside buildings established to support the institution’s academic programs.

Its distinctive curved roof and connection to the institution’s early campus development make the gymnasium a recognizable part of MSEUF’s built environment. The building represents a link between the University’s beginnings as Luzonian Colleges and its continuing role in education and community service.

Free community access in 2025

MSEUF provided the University Gymnasium free of charge for basketball competitions during the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Quezon Cluster Meet 2025.

Participating student-athletes from schools across Quezon province accessed the gymnasium for their scheduled competitions. This arrangement extended use beyond MSEUF’s own students and enabled external school delegations to participate in activities within a longstanding campus landmark.

The free venue arrangement demonstrated community access through an organized interschool event. It did not require participating schools to pay a venue-use fee for the basketball competitions.

Casa Segunda: Connecting the campus with Lucena’s heritage

Casa Segunda was unveiled at the University Village along Enverga Boulevard on Oct. 4, 2024. The relocated and restored ancestral house brought a part of Lucena’s architectural history into the campus environment.

The University’s published account describes Casa Segunda as a heritage hub and a venue for academic enrichment, cultural performances and community events. It complements the gymnasium’s institutional history by providing a space connected to the city’s local heritage.

Supporting sustainable communities

The University Gymnasium and Casa Segunda connect campus development with opportunities for heritage learning and community participation.

For the 2025 reporting period, the gymnasium’s free use during the PRISAA Quezon Cluster Meet provides a documented example of access by external school communities. Casa Segunda supplies additional context on the University’s engagement with local heritage.

These spaces relate to Sustainable Development Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, through their historical connections and community roles. The gymnasium’s shared use also supports Sustainable Development Goal 3, Good Health and Well-Being, by providing access to sports facilities.
