MSEUF strengthens responsible investment and divestment commitments through 2025 Sustainability Policy review

SDGSDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation MSEUF strengthened its commitment to responsible investment and environmental sustainability through its 2025 Sustainability Policy Year-End Review on Dec. 9 at the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research IGSR Conference Room in Lucena City.

The University conducted the review alongside its Technical Working Group (TWG) Committee Meeting to assess sustainability accomplishments, evaluate institutional priorities and guide action plans for the succeeding year. The activity reinforced MSEUF's commitment to integrating environmental responsibility into institutional governance, resource management and investment decisions.

Institutional policy on responsible investment and divestment

MSEUF maintains a Sustainability Policy that establishes institutional commitments to environmental responsibility, sustainable resource management and responsible investment. The policy identifies four principal areas: energy-efficient renovation of buildings, carbon reduction and emissions reduction, reduction in energy consumption, and divestment.

Under Section 4.0, the University's Divestment Policy provides a framework for aligning institutional financial decisions with environmental sustainability objectives.

The policy emphasizes responsible financial stewardship and recognizes the importance of directing institutional resources toward investments consistent with the University's environmental commitments.

Section 4.2 outlines strategies involving sustainable investment fund allocation, sustainability-focused research and ethical investment practices. These provisions identify environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations as part of the University's approach to responsible investment.

Through this framework, MSEUF recognizes the environmental implications of investment decisions and supports financial strategies that contribute to long-term sustainability.

Aligning investment priorities with cleaner energy

In 2025, MSEUF continued to advance its sustainability agenda by directing institutional attention and resources toward renewable energy infrastructure and sustainability-oriented initiatives.

University Management approved the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in six additional buildings, including the College of Criminal Justice and Criminology, College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management, Basic Education Department, Arts and Education, Library, and College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences buildings.

The University also approved a budget for the College of Criminal Justice and Criminology Building's proposed solar PV installation, with implementation planned for the first part of 2026.

These decisions demonstrate MSEUF's commitment to prioritizing institutional resources for cleaner energy infrastructure and reducing future dependence on conventional electricity sources.

Although renewable energy infrastructure spending is distinct from financial divestment, these initiatives complement the University's responsible investment objectives by supporting the transition toward more sustainable energy systems.

Strengthening divestment governance through the 2025 policy review

MSEUF sustained its institutional sustainability governance through the annual review mechanism established under its Sustainability Policy.

On Dec. 9, 2025, the University conducted its Sustainability Policy Year-End Review in coordination with the Technical Working Group. The activity evaluated the University's progress in implementing its sustainability roadmap and identified priorities for the succeeding year.

The review addressed the University's broader sustainability framework, which includes divestment as one of its four principal policy areas.

Through this process, MSEUF maintained institutional oversight of its sustainability commitments and reinforced the importance of evaluating financial and operational priorities against long-term environmental objectives.

The continuing review mechanism supports policy accountability by providing opportunities to assess accomplishments, identify implementation concerns and recommend improvements to the University's sustainability strategies.

Advancing responsible financial stewardship and sustainable development

Through its Sustainability Policy, responsible investment provisions and continuing institutional review, MSEUF strengthens the integration of environmental considerations into university governance and long-term financial planning.

The University's Divestment Policy establishes an institutional framework for sustainable investment decisions, while its 2025 resource allocation toward renewable energy infrastructure demonstrates continuing support for cleaner energy development.

These efforts reinforce MSEUF's commitment to sustainable financial stewardship and contribute to the objectives of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.

By aligning its institutional decisions with environmental responsibility, MSEUF advances its vision of becoming a globally competitive university while upholding its core values of Mindfulness, Service, Excellence, Unity and Fortitude.
