The Department of Migrant Workers conducted a webinar on Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons for graduating students of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation as part of the university’s Preparation for Employment and Entrepreneurship Program.
Junie Bobier and Wilma Mamiit, personnel from the Department of Migrant Workers, served as resource speakers and discussed the agency’s mandate, programs and services for migrant workers.
The speakers highlighted key laws under the DMW’s mandate, including Republic Act 8042, or the Migrant Workers Act, as amended by Republic Act 10022, and Republic Act 9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, as amended by Republic Act 10364.
The AIR-TIP webinar aimed to inform graduating students about the risks of illegal recruitment and human trafficking, which continue to affect workers in the Philippines and abroad. The session also helped students understand the legal protections available to them as they prepare to enter the workforce.
Through the learning session, participants gained practical knowledge on identifying unscrupulous recruitment agencies, recognizing warning signs and avoiding strategies used in illegal recruitment and trafficking schemes.
The activity formed part of the required seminars and learning sessions that graduating students must attend before graduation under PEP TALKS, a program of the Office of Scholarships and Endowment, Job Placement and Alumni Relations.
The webinar was organized by OSEJPAR, in partnership with the Office of Student Affairs and Services and the graduating class officers.
The activity reflected MSEUF’s commitment to preparing graduates for responsible, informed and safe participation in the world of work. It also upheld the core values of Mindfulness, Service and Excellence by equipping students with knowledge that protects their rights, welfare and future careers.
