OSEJPAR launches 'Alumni Konec;' first session highlights career opportunities in cybersecurity
Aiming to provide students with up-to-date insights on emerging career paths and to strengthen connections with accomplished alumni, the first-ever Alumni Konec was held at the Dr. Tobias Y. Enverga, Sr. Alumni Center, Aug. 5.
Conducted in a hybrid format, the event gathered third and fourth-year students from the College of Computing and Multimedia Studies (CCMS) onsite, while other participants joined virtually.
The highlight of the session was a talk on career opportunities in cybersecurity where Ms. Leah Gandia-Cordova, an alumna of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) served as the guest spealer.
Ms. Cordova is currently based in Dallas, Texas, where she serves as Principal Specialist in Cybersecurity & Digital Compliance at Collins Aerospace & RTX Technology.
In her talk, Ms. Cordova emphasized the increasing global demand for cybersecurity professionals, driven by the urgent need to protect data and digital infrastructure from cyber threats., where she discussed key roles in the field, including analysis, auditing, compliance, and risk management, while also outlining the technical and soft skills necessary for success in both local and international settings.
During the Q&A session, students inquired about the certifications and competencies required to pursue a career in cybersecurity.
The program opened with a warm welcome from Vice President for External Relations (VPER) Celso D. Jaballa, who acknowledged the importance of alumni engagement in student career development. It concluded with a message from CCMS Dean Rodrigo Belleza, Jr., who underscored the event’s significance in guiding students to better understand and appreciate the cybersecurity profession.
