OSAS BED-GTO strengthens mental health program; 560 parents attend KUMU program

To guide parents on how to express and acknowledge their emotions without feeling guilty, the Basic Education Department Guidance and Testing Office (BED-GTO) held the Parents’ KUMU: Knowing, Unleashing, Managing, and Understanding Parents’ Well-being program titled “Mare, Pare, Anong Lastest? Keeping Parents’ Emotions in Check.”

The program also sought to address the challenges and issues currently faced by parents, emphasize the harmful impact of emotional suppression on parents' well-being, held at the BED Covered Court, Nov. 8 . 

Fe Bartiana, Principal of the Basic Education Department welcomed the parents and delivered the opening remarks.

"Parents face various challenges, such as financial pressures, family dynamics, relationships with their children, work, and more.. We hope that this program would be valuable in helping you be equipped to manage these daily challenges as they support and meet your children's needs." Principal Bartiana emphasized.

Reina Pasumbal, Learning and Developmen Center Director, served as the Keynote Speaker where she explained the significance of the parent's role in their children's success.

"Giving time to your children is valuable. Also, it promotes happiness through connection, and values honed at home develop their character and strengthen their integrity", Pasumbal said. 

Rommel Hiloma, BED Assistant Principal, emphasized the importance of programs that facilitate parental involvement in education.

"By supporting parents and addressing their children's needs, these programs can strengthen the partnership between home and school, which ultimately benefits students' overall development and academic success,"  Hiloma said.
