There is a growing demand in the areas of newspapers, journals and magazines research. In response to this, the University Libraries have subscribed to more than 70 current titles of print materials from both local and international resources, or 100 titles of electronic journals to Gale Company which provides fast and reliable information for research and studies. The University also joined the consortium to ProQuest Research Library with more than 4,000 titles of journals.
There are subscriptions to newspaper in DVD format with two (2) titles of newspapers namely Manila Times and Philippine Daily Inquirer from Ateneo de Manila University that are also available at the Reference and Filipiniana Section (RFS).
Collection in this section is restricted to room use only. However, back issues may be borrowed for home use upon request and approval by the librarian-in-charge.
Access to the Collection
The “open shelf” system is used in this section. Bound periodicals are arranged alphabetically by title on the shelves. Back issues are also arranged alphabetically by title and organized by back issue in the stacks area. Current issues are properly displayed on racks.
SERVICES
The Periodicals Section supports the teaching and research mission of the University by providing public assistance, access, storage, maintenance, and management of periodicals collection. For research purposes, several periodicals are indexed and now available in the OPAC. Collections are for inside use only. Newspapers and local magazines may be borrowed by faculty and non-teaching personnel after 5:00 PM and to be returned early in the morning of the next day.
