History and Milestones of CCMS
The College of Computing and Multimedia Studies (CCMS) stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and innovation. Since its inception, CCMS has been a pioneering force, shaping the landscape of computing and multimedia education in our region and beyond. Founded with a vision to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the rapidly evolving fields of computing and multimedia, CCMS embarked on its journey with a commitment to excellence and a passion for pushing boundaries. From its humble beginnings to its current stature as a premier institution, CCMS has consistently upheld its dedication to academic rigor, innovation, and student-centered learning.
To address the market for computer professionals of various industries here and abroad, Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation offers BS in Computer Science (BSCS) and Associate in Computer Science (ACoS) on SY 1995-1996 under the College of Business and Accountancy. On August 13, 1998, the management approved the creation of the Institute of Information Technology (IIT), a separate department that will manage and improve the Computer and Information Technology programs of MSEUF through memorandum order signed by then President Jose S. Laureles to address the growing demand and increasing number of BSCS students. Faculty which handles computer courses and technical staff which manage and maintains computer laboratories are under the IIT. Mr. Farley L. Abrigo was appointed as Acting Director of IIT when it was created.
On August 3, 1999 the Internet Access Center (IAC) started its operation under Build-Operate-Transfer partnership agreement with Micromac Corporation. The IAC serves as supplementary research facilities of the university for online resources. It offers internet services to both faculty and students of the university. IIT launch “CYBERANGAY: Computer Eskwela para sa Masang Kabataan”, the first community extension program of IIT. September 14, 1999 when CHED issued full recognition of the BSCS program of MSEUF. On December 9-12, 1999, the first IIT Week was held to celebrate the founding of IIT as a separate department. The IIT Week conducts various academic and cultural competitions to showcase the skills of IIT students. On January 22, 1999, the Society of Information Technology Students (SITES), the official student organization of IIT was established and the pioneer officers was inducted headed by Rodrigo C. Belleza Jr., a fourth year BSCS student as its pioneer President. Also, that year the first issue of ONLINE, the official publication of IIT and SITES was released.
IIT produced its first batch of graduates of the BSCS program with a total of 29 graduates on the 52nd Commencement Exercises of the university on April 6, 1999. On SY 2000-2001, the BS in Information Technology (BSIT) and BS in Information Management (BSIM) was first offered under Institute of Information Technology (IIT). On the 54th Commencement Exercises of the university on April 2, 2001, Ms. Anna C. Aquino and Ms. Cherry A. Villamarzo graduated Cum Laude, the first BSCS graduates who graduated with honors.
The increase of program offerings and continuous upsurge of IIT students encourage the university management to elevate the status of IIT into a College. On 2003, the Institute of Institute of Information Technology was elevated into College and was renamed the College of Computer Studies (CCS). Mr. Farley L. Abrigo was appointed as the first Dean of CCS. Under his Deanship, the College of Computer Studies was recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as Center of Development in Information Technology in 2007 (CMO 52 series 2007). Under his leadership, the College of Computer Studies became a CISCO Networking Academy. Moreover, the BS Computer Science program became the first Level I accredited in the region by PACUCOA and obtained its Level II accredited status on December 19, 2011.
In June 2009, Mr. Rodrigo C. Belleza Jr. was appointed as the new Dean of the College of Computer Studies. Under his Deanship he sustained the excellence in IT education of the CCS. In 2009 MSEUF implements its campus wide WiFi infrastructure through partnership with Expedia Solution Specialist, Inc. The BS in Computer Science program obtained its PACUCOA Level II 2nd Reaccreditation status on February 6, 2012. For the second time CHED recognized the College of Computer Studies as one of the Center of Development in Information Technology in 2015 (CMO 38 series of 2015). The BS in Information Technology program obtained its Level II accredited status on February 3, 2016.
In school year 2012-2013 MSEUF became the first HEI in the Quezon province and in the region to offer specialization track in Business Analytics and Service Management for BPO on its BSIT and BSCS curriculum. In May 2015 CHED approved the application of MSEUF to offer BS in Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (BSEMC) with specialization in Digital Animation and Game Development effective SY 2015-2016.
The College of Computer Studies sustain state-of-the-art computer laboratories as part of MSEUF commitment to provide quality IT education to students. On March 26, 2010, MSEUF management approved the expansion and renovation of CCS building and laboratories. On April 21, 2015 CCS acquire almost three million worth of top of the line Mac computer units and graphics tablet for CL-02. Additional Mac computer units were acquired on April 12, 2016 for CL-07. In addition to maintaining top of the line computer units, CCS also maintain updated software and curriculum through integration of CISCO Networking Academy, Oracle Academy, Microsoft Imagine Academy, IBM Business Analytics Software, iOS Developer Program, and SAP in the BSCS and BSIT curriculum. On SY 2013-2014, CCS became Certiport authorized testing center for Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA). Moreover, continuous acquisition and subscription to Microsoft and Adobe software ensure that students use the latest software in their respective IT courses.
All CCS faculty members both fulltime and part-time haver their respective Master degree in line with their specialization. Moreover, all full-time faculty pursued their Doctor in Information Technology (DIT) degree and have various IT certifications. On May 27, 2015 Dr. Jose B. Tan Jr. and Dr. Maria Cecilia G. Cantos are the first two faculty members of the College of Computer Studies who completed their Doctor in Information Technology (DIT) degree at Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP).
The College of Computer Studies consistently win in various IT competition. This is an indication of the quality IT education that MSEUF provide to its IT students. On October 29, 2015, the Computer Science research of Ms. Ma. Hannah Camille R. Deza entitled “Water Quality Monitoring and Control System” was the winner in the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) SIBOL Award for Outstanding Creative Research. Ms. Deza represent Region IV-A in the DOST 2016 National Invention Contest and Exhibits(NICE 2016) on July 28-31, 2016 at SMX Convention Center Mall of Asia Complex. Mr. Rey Martin Balilo, a BSCS student is the champion in the C++ programming competition while Mr. Mark Perez, a BSIT student won second place in the VB.NET programming competition sponsored by PSITE 4-A held on January 16, 2014. On September 2013 the IT Quiz Team of CCS is the champion in the ICT-Based Quiz Bee sponsored by DOST Region 4-A. On January 16, 2013 the CCS team won second place in the Multimedia Development competition sponsored by PSITE 4-A. The CCS IT Quiz team reaped third place in the PSITE Regional IT Quiz Bee on February 1, 2012. Prof. Raymond S. Bermudez paper entitle “J-Master: An Interactive Game-based Tool for Teaching and Learning Java Programming” was selected as best paper during the 10th National Conference in Information Technology Education (NCITE 2012) held on October 10, 2012. CCS is also the champion in the 2010 PSITE Regional IT Quiz Bee and third place in 2011.
On 2015, CCS started diversification and expansion of its services. The Information Technology Center for Continuing Education (ITCCE) was established on October 14, 2015. The center serve as a hub for IT students and professionals who want to advance their skills in Information Technology and Multimedia computing. Moreover, the center is a venue for both College of Computer Studies faculty and industry practitioner to impart contemporary and in-demand skills in Information Technology in the form of short courses/trainings and IT certification.
In March 10, 2017, the IT Development and Innovation Center (ITDIC) and Learning Services Center (LSC) were established. The ITDIC serve as an Information Technology development, Technopreneurship, incubation, and innovation unit of the College of Computer Studies and our University. It accepts Information Technology projects being developed and managed by faculty and students of the College of Computer Studies. The Learning Services Center (LSC) is responsible for the implementation and management of learning management systems, training, and production of educational technology and learning content for various courses and programs offered by our University. It helps MSEUF to offer modern mode of instruction delivery to its students and expand its market by offering programs and courses online.
As part of pursuit for excellence, CCS started its effort for obtaining international accreditation and quality assurance. On June 21-24, 2015, Dean Rodrigo C. Belleza Jr. was sent to Bangkok, Thailand for the 12th ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Training Course for Accomplishing Program Assessment. Moreover, the College of Computer Studies is preparing for PACUCOA Level 3 accreditation of its BSCS and BSIT programs on September 2017.
