The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Region IV-A, in partnership with the Human Resource Department and the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, conducted a training on voter education and human rights at the Dr. Tobias Y. Enverga Sr. Alumni Center, April 29.

More than 60 faculty members and student leaders from various colleges attended the event to discuss the importance of responsible voting and the role of human rights in governance.

CHR Region IV-A Chief of the Promotions and Advocacy Division Aileen Edades led the discussion, along with Information Officers Lea Liabres and Jolly Ann Santos Andal. They presented topics that highlighted the responsibility of citizens to vote and the connection between democratic participation and human rights.

“Informed voting is a civic duty. It requires critical thinking and awareness of human rights,” Edades said during her session.

“We believe that training students and faculty about their rights and responsibilities strengthens democratic values,” Andal said.

  • The event aligned with the university’s mission to produce graduates who are professionally competent and socially responsible. It also reflected the university’s educational philosophy of developing individuals who can actively participate in nation-building and social transformation through mindful and service-oriented leadership.
  • The training supported the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
    • SDG 4: Quality Education – by enriching civic and human rights education for both faculty and students
    • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – by encouraging equal access to knowledge that empowers all sectors
    • SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions – by fostering awareness of transparency, accountability, and rule of law
    • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – by strengthening collaboration between MSEUF and CHR IV-A in advancing shared goals
