Envergan nursing students spread Christmas cheer at Sinag Kalinga Foundation
To lift the spirits of the residents and support the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, Good Health and Well-being, nursing students from Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) visited the elderly residents of Sinag Kalinga Foundation in Lucban, Quezon, for an event called "Pasko ng Pagmamahal: Nursing Students Bringing Joy to the Elderly," Dec. 12.
The program featured musical performances, dances, and gift packages with essential items and holiday treats where students sang carols, gave gifts, and spent time with the elderly, engaging them in meaningful activities.
Dr. Maria Corazon Valdeavilla, Dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, explained, "Our Christmas activity aligns with SDG 3 by promoting the well-being of the elderly and emphasizing holistic care. Our students need to understand that health includes physical, emotional, and social well-being."
For the students, the event provided a chance to practice empathy and compassion. Junior nursing student Feliza Grace Anne Derilo reflected, "Spending time with the elderly and seeing their joy reminded us that small acts of kindness can make a significant difference. It's about building community and enhancing quality of life."
The residents and staff at Sinag Kalinga Foundation appreciated the nursing students’ efforts to spread holiday cheer and support well-being. The College of Nursing plans to continue outreach programs that benefit the community, reflecting the university’s commitment to SDG 3 and fostering a culture of service.
