Tourism student places 2nd in ASEAN Ambassador 2026

Showcasing leadership, advocacy and regional awareness, Nelson Franco Matibag, a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management student of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, placed second in the ASEAN Ambassador 2026 competition during CHED CALABARZON’s “ASEAN Voyage 2026: The Grand Final Sail” on Sept. 1 at St. Dominic College of Asia in Bacoor, Cavite.
Matibag represented the College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management in the regional competition, which highlighted student engagement and advocacy related to the ASEAN community.
Aside from his second-place finish, Matibag received the special award for Best in Advocacy and Engagement, recognizing his performance in communicating and promoting his chosen advocacy during the competition.
Denmark Catan served as Matibag’s ASEAN Ambassador coach and guided him throughout his preparation for the event.
The recognition provided Matibag with an opportunity to demonstrate communication, leadership and advocacy skills while representing the University in a regional academic and cultural activity.
Through his achievement, CIHTM strengthened student participation in programs that promote ASEAN awareness, regional engagement and the development of globally oriented tourism students.
The achievement supported the University’s vision of global competitiveness by providing students with opportunities to develop communication, leadership and intercultural competencies in regional activities. It also reflected the core values of Excellence and Fortitude through preparation, advocacy and active representation of the University.
