Completed2017

Abstract

This study focused on determining the different rice farming mitigation and adaptation practices in the Province of Quezon particularly in the municipality of Tayabas. Scientific evidences of rainfall pattern in the last 10 years were presented to determine the effect of climate change in the rice farming practices of the palay farmers. This study is a descriptive type of research that utilized qualitative and quantitative approach and used an interview guide and surveys that gave insight to the demographic profile of the respondents and practices of the palay farmers. Also, document analysis was done in the data from PAGASA Synoptic Station in Tayabas City to determine the rainfall pattern in the last 10 years. The study was conducted in different barangays in Tayabas City particularly in Brgy. Pulo, Brgy. Wakas and Brgy. Lalo. There were a total of 7 subjects. Percentage method was used in the statistical analysis of data. Results and findings revelaved that majority of the respondents practiced different traditional and modern rice farming practices particularly in using cropping pattern scheme as part of mitigation and adaptation to climate change. It was revealved that every year, there is a gradual change in the rainfall pattern and the month of August has an abnormal volume of rainfall. Since it revealed that climate change is a great factor that affects the cropping pattern scheme of the palay farmers, it is highly recommended that the palay farmers use the updated new cropping pattern scheme that is suitable in the present weather condition in the locale to avoid any crop loss.
