Strengthening peer support and student well-being initiatives across the University, the Peer Facilitators under the Office of Student Affairs and Services Guidance Office launched their activities for academic year 2026-27 through kickoff meetings held Aug. 12 and 26 at OSAS Building Room 5.

Twenty-three active Peer Facilitators from the College of Criminal Justice and Criminology, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of Computing and Multimedia Studies, College of Architecture and Fine Arts, College of Engineering, and College of Maritime Education participated in the meetings. The sessions provided a venue to discuss upcoming activities, promotional initiatives and participation in student-centered programs.

April Marquez welcomed the participants and encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills gained from their previous training and workshops. “This kickoff meeting serves as a practical starting point where you can apply what you have learned from the previous training workshop,” Marquez said. “This session strengthens your capability to extend help and actively participate in OSAS activities, where you can apply your skills and talents as Peer Facilitators and agents of first aid.”

Among the key initiatives discussed was the development of a dedicated social media page for the Peer Facilitators, also known as the Peerkadas. The group explored content and promotional strategies that can introduce their role to the wider student community and provide a platform for activities, advocacy campaigns and mental health-related information.

The Peerkadas also began preparing for the upcoming World Mental Health Celebration, where they are expected to contribute to the development of a photobooth and assist in the preparation and implementation of the program. The activity will provide them with another opportunity to apply their training while promoting mental health awareness and meaningful student connections.

Through the kickoff meetings, the Peer Facilitators established a direction for their projects throughout the academic year and strengthened their commitment to serving as accessible sources of peer support. Their planned initiatives aim to help build a more caring, inclusive and supportive campus environment where students feel heard, connected and encouraged to seek assistance when needed.

The initiative supported Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation’s commitment to student-centered and holistic development by strengthening peer support, student participation and mental well-being initiatives. It also reflected the core values of Mindfulness, Service and Unity by encouraging students to care for one another, build meaningful connections and contribute actively to a supportive University community.

  • SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being — The Peer Facilitators’ activities promote mental health awareness, peer support and student well-being.
  • SDG 4: Quality Education — Training and participation in peer facilitation programs develop communication, leadership and helping skills that complement students’ academic growth.
