The newly elected University Student Collegiate Council (UCSC) and Department Student Council (DSC) convened on September 15 at the St. Bonaventure Student Center for their formal oath-taking, including the newly elected president, Felomena Quizana, who previously served as UCSC secretary.

She hails from the TUGON party, which stands for Transparency, Unity, Good Governance, Outstanding Service, and Nurturing Leadership for Envergans.

In the 2023 elections, Quizana ran for president under the TUGON party. Her opponent was former UCSC president Genesis Zerrudo, who sought re-election under the Coalition for the Advancement and Unity of the Students of Enverga (CAUSE).

Quizana began serving the university in 2021 as part of the Research Committee and Publicity Information Committee, and in 2022, she was elected as Secretary-General. Reflecting on her journey, Quizana remarked that as student leaders, they all share the same goal: to serve. She emphasized that past experiences and former positions do not pose any barriers, but rather unite them with a shared understanding and purpose from the previous term.

According to the results announced by The Luzonian on September 14, released by USCOMELEC for the UCSC-DSC 2023 Elections, Quizana won with 2,768 votes against Zerrudo’s 2,282 votes.

The formal oath-taking of the newly elected leaders took place on September 15 at the St. Bonaventure Student Center. During the ceremony, Zerrudo delivered a formal yet heartfelt message as he passed the leadership to the new officers of the university.

In her speech, newly elected UCSC President Quizana expressed her deep gratitude for her victory. She highlighted her journey from holding a minor position to now shouldering greater responsibilities, stating that from working in the background, she is now leading from the forefront.

Quizana also thanked Zerrudo for allowing her to be part of the previous administration. The formal oath-taking included the newly elected leaders from various departments, including CAS, CCJC, CIHTM, CENG, CBA, CAFA, CCMS, CED, CME, and CNAHS.

The ceremony also saw the swearing-in of other top university officials, including Roxanne Cuala of TUGON Partylist as vice president, Bernadette Baldovino of CAUSE Partylist as secretary, Mariella Perlas of CAUSE Partylist as treasurer, and Ira Satur, also from the CAUSE Partylist, as auditor.

The program continued with the newly elected leaders taking their oath of office, raising their right hands as they pledged to serve the university. Afterward, a brief photo opportunity was held for all attendees.

The elections were held in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16), specifically under target 16.2.1, which aims to promote inclusive, participatory, and representative decision-making at all levels. The newly elected student leaders are expected to uphold these values, ensuring the fair representation of their fellow students.
