MLIS students, faculty attend CONSAL XIX 2025 in Malaysia

Faculty members and students from the Master in Library and Information Science (MLIS) program of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) participated in the 19th Congress of Southeast Asian Librarians (CONSAL XIX), held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from June 16-19.

The event, with the theme "Inclusive Knowledge: Bridging Divides, Empowering All," brought together librarians, information professionals, and scholars from across Southeast Asia to discuss innovations, challenges, and collaborative strategies in the field of library and information science.

The participation of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) in the event was marked by several significant engagements and enriching experiences.

Delegates took part in various panel discussions, delving into critical topics such as the role of emerging technologies in modern libraries, sustainable approaches to knowledge management, and innovative strategies for extending library services to marginalized communities. These sessions provided valuable insights into current trends and best practices in the field, equipping attendees with new ideas to enhance their institutional library systems.

Another key aspect of MSEUF’s involvement was the networking opportunities the event facilitated. Representatives had the chance to interact with librarians, educators, and policymakers from different Southeast Asian countries, fostering meaningful professional connections. These interactions laid the groundwork for potential future collaborations, joint research initiatives, and partnerships aimed at advancing library and information services in the region.

Beyond the academic and professional exchanges, the delegates also immersed themselves in a cultural exchange, experiencing Malaysia’s rich heritage and traditions. This exposure not only broadened their cultural understanding but also offered a deeper appreciation of how library services can be adapted to diverse societal contexts.

The blend of intellectual discourse and cultural exploration enriched their overall perspective, reinforcing the importance of global cooperation in the evolving landscape of library and information science.

As part of their professional immersion arranged by CONSAL XIX 2025, the MSEUF delegates visited several of Malaysia's most innovative libraries. In Shah Alam, the group toured the Tun Abdul Razak Library (PTAR) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), where Library Director Mr. Azizi Bin Jantan showcased the institution's digital transformation and student-centered learning spaces.

The delegation then visited the Raja Tun Uda Library (PPAS), Selangor State Public Library under the guidance of Director Mastura Binti Haji Muhamad, observing cutting-edge public services including multilingual collections and inclusive literacy programs. In Kuala Lumpur, the MLIS students and faculty also visited the National Library of Malaysia (Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia) featuring rare manuscripts, digital preservation labs, and discussions about Malaysia's national literacy initiatives and ASEAN digital collaborations.

These visits provided invaluable exposure to Malaysia's progressive library ecosystems and best practices in information service delivery.
