CAS Psych Society welcomes freshmen in annual Psych-Salubong
The CAS Psychological Society welcomed first-year psychology students during its Annual Psych-Salubong at AEC Rooms 105 and 106 of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation to foster connection, belongingness and academic engagement under the theme “Casa Psycología: Celebrating the Magic of Connection, Belongingness, and the Ethereal Doors of Psychology.”
The whole-day celebration began with registration and an interactive icebreaker that encouraged participants to connect with peers. The morning seminar focused on the Dynamics of Self-Identity, where speakers discussed personal development and its link to students’ academic journeys. Organizers awarded certificates to the speakers before concluding the session and breaking for lunch.
In the afternoon, the traditional handshake formally welcomed freshmen into the psychology community, symbolizing unity and acceptance.
Participants then joined simultaneous themed game stations inspired by characters from Encanto, each highlighting key psychological principles. At Station Mirabel, students practiced nonverbal communication through charades. Station Dolores tested cognitive flexibility by asking participants to identify hidden rules. Station Luisa emphasized collaboration through timed group drawing, while Station Isabela promoted self-reflection by identifying personal strengths and growth areas.
Station Julieta underscored sacrifice and group cohesion as members negotiated silently over who would give up a spot by popping a balloon. Station Bruno integrated the experience by requiring teams to gather puzzle pieces from all stations, with the first group to complete the puzzle declared champion.
The event concluded with Kamustahan, an open sharing session where participants reflected on their experiences, followed by a group photo session.
“Psych-Salubong reminded us that psychology is not only a field of study but also a supportive community,” a student organizer said.
The activity successfully merged academic discussion with interactive engagement, strengthening bonds among new and senior students.
The event reflected the University’s core values of Unity, Mindfulness and Excellence by promoting inclusive engagement and reflective learning. It also embodied student-centered and transformative education by integrating theory, self-awareness and collaborative experiences in welcoming new members of the academic community.
