El Turismo Society highlights careers beyond traditional tourism roles
The El Turismo Society held a career seminar titled “Beyond the Skies: Exploring Careers in Tour Agencies and Government Sectors” on March 6 at the MSEUF AEC Little Theatre, bringing together tourism students from first to fourth year.
The seminar aimed to broaden students’ understanding of career opportunities in the tourism industry beyond traditional roles. Guest speakers Rhanna Lynn Maaño Javier, owner of Pick-a-Trip Travel and Tours, and Shaina Louise Kim-Batilo, academic staff of the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research and former National Commission for Culture and the Arts employee, shared insights on entrepreneurship, public service, and ethical leadership in tourism.
Javier discussed opportunities in travel entrepreneurship and the importance of innovation and customer-centered service, while Kim-Batilo highlighted career paths in government and cultural institutions, emphasizing integrity and social responsibility in public service.
The seminar encouraged active participation through an open forum where students raised questions about career preparation and industry realities. The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates and the collection of participant feedback. Organizers said the event underscored the need for adaptability and innovation in an evolving tourism sector.
The seminar supports Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation’s mission of producing globally competitive and industry-ready graduates by exposing students to diverse career pathways. It reflects the core values of Excellence through professional development, Mindfulness through ethical leadership discussions, Service by highlighting public sector roles, and Unity through collaborative learning between students and practitioners.
