Learning Development Strategies

The heart of the center is the students’ learning development. To ensure that learning happens, various advancement and enhancement activities were designed. They are grouped into three categories, namely:

Student Learning Community (SLC) – This learning development strategy goes beyond the concept of peer- assisted learning which main purpose is to provide academic assistance to learners who are at risk. A student learning community is a gathering of students with diverse program backgrounds. The Community serves as the fountain of relevant and authentic inputs in terms of contextualizing learning activities and opportunities which are designed by the Center. Select members of the SLC are deputized as student-teachers in charge of their fellow students who need academic guidance or assistance or simply, a learning buddy to keep the latter inspired or motivated.

Mentoring, and Coaching Culture (MC2) - The LDC cultivates a culture of collaboration in all its learning engagements. Collaboration is translated through Mentoring and Coaching.  The culture of mentoring and coaching is a powerful support mechanism in ensuring that specific course competencies are achieved. LDC program coordinators (recommended by the Academic Deans) play a very significant role in shaping this culture. They are the program experts who also act as LDC Mentors and Coaches who, aside from providing direct supervision to at-risk-learners, train student-teachers as peer tutors in terms of content/technical aspects.

Enhancement of Learner’s Learning Agility (ELLA) – This learning development strategy is a supplementary program which intends to help in honing the learning stamina and academic endurance of the learners. It is futile to simply capitalize on learning abilities; alongside this should be the strengthening of the student’s attitude to and towards learning.
