MSEUF strengthens research capacity through GABAY training-workshop
Strengthening institutional research capability and scholarly productivity, Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, through the DCAV Research and Knowledge Management Institute, conducted the three-day Generating Actionable Blueprints for Advancing Yield-Driven Research, or GABAY, Training-Workshop on Sept. 16-18 at the MSEUF Library Seminar Hall.
The training-workshop equipped faculty and non-teaching staff researchers with knowledge and practical skills for developing high-quality, fundable and ethically sound research proposals. Dr. Claudia Odette Ayala, acting vice president for academics and research, opened the activity and emphasized the role of research in advancing the University’s research agenda and institutional development.
Participants attended sessions covering qualitative and quantitative research designs, data collection and analysis, research ethics and responsible conduct of research, intellectual property, data privacy, scientific writing, scholarly publication, grant proposal development and research project management.
Resource speakers included Ayala; Dr. Flormando Baldovino, dean of the College of Business and Accountancy; Dr. Maria Corazon Valdeavilla, dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences and chair of the Research Ethics Committee; Engr. Roselyn Maaño, head of the Research Publication, Incubation, and Utilization Center; and Dr. Felixberto Mercado, dean of the DCAV Research and Knowledge Management Institute.
The second day shifted to hands-on proposal writing, consultation and mentoring. Guided by the MSEUF E-RIDE 2019-2030 Research Agenda for their respective colleges, participants developed and refined their research problems, objectives, frameworks, methodologies and research plans.
On the final day, participants presented proposed research projects for school year 2026-27 and received feedback through peer and facilitator review. Program Manager Jade Oraa helped coordinate the workshop activities, which concluded with the awarding of certificates to participants.
Mercado emphasized that the capability-building activity aimed to produce concrete research outputs that could advance toward ethics review, institutional evaluation, funding, implementation, publication and dissemination. Through GABAY, MSEUF continued to promote research excellence, collaboration and innovation by helping members of its academic community transform research ideas into actionable proposals.

The GABAY Training-Workshop supported MSEUF’s commitment to research-based knowledge, innovation and continuous institutional development by strengthening researchers’ capacity to produce rigorous and relevant studies. It also reflected the core values of Excellence, Mindfulness and Fortitude through responsible research practice, scholarly collaboration and the systematic development of research projects aligned with the University’s agenda.
• SDG 4: Quality Education — The workshop strengthened the research competencies of faculty and staff through training, mentoring and hands-on proposal development.
• SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure — Developing actionable and potentially fundable research proposals supports innovation, knowledge creation and the translation of research into practical outputs.
• SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals — Peer review, mentoring and collaboration among researchers from different academic units encouraged interdisciplinary knowledge exchange and institutional cooperation.
