To strengthen ethical review processes and reinforce standards among faculty researchers, the Dr. Cesar A. Villariba Research and Knowledge Management Institute (DCAVRKMI) conducted a one-day Calibration Training for Research Ethics Review at the DCAVRKMI Research Training Center, Nov. 7.

Training sessions were facilitated by DCAVRKMI Dean Felix Mercado and College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences Dean Maria Corazon Valdeavilla. Valdeavilla discussed the basics of research ethics, focusing on principles of respect for persons, beneficence, and justice. Mercado provided a detailed walkthrough of the research ethics review protocol and guided participants on evaluating proposals for ethical compliance.

Vice President for Academics and Research Benilda Villenas opened the program by emphasizing the importance of ethics in ensuring research integrity, participant protection, and responsible knowledge production. She highlighted that ethical practices are essential for maintaining public trust and supporting high-quality scholarly output.

Open forums enabled participants to raise concerns, seek clarifications, and engage in meaningful discussions on ethical issues encountered in research. Break intervals also allowed attendees to network and exchange insights with colleagues.

Mercado noted that the initiative supports DCAVRKMI’s mission to promote ethical and responsible research across the academic community, ensuring that all studies meet institutional and regulatory standards.

The program concluded with participants expressing appreciation for the clear and practical guidance provided throughout the training. Organizers affirmed that similar capacity-building activities will continue to enhance ethical competence and research quality across the University.

The initiative reflects the University’s commitment to Excellence and Mindfulness by promoting ethical scholarship and responsible research practices. It demonstrates Unity and Fortitude as faculty members collectively strengthen institutional standards and uphold integrity in scientific inquiry.
