CCJC, PNP conduct career orientation for graduating criminology students
College of Criminal Justice and Criminology (CCJC) of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation in partnership with the Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted a career orientation seminar for graduating criminology students, April 10.
The orientation aimed to guide fourth-year students in exploring career opportunities within the law enforcement sector and prepare them for professional life after graduation.
“This initiative is part of our responsibility to prepare students not just for graduation, but for their future roles in public safety,” said Dr. Henendina Lagumen, dean of CCJC. “We want them to see the real landscape of law enforcement careers from people who live it every day.”
PLTCOL Dennis C. Deguzman, Officer-in-Charge of Lucena City Police Station, discussed the daily realities and responsibilities of serving in the city police force. “The job demands dedication and integrity,” Deguzman said. “But it also offers a chance to create real change in our communities.”
PMAJ Marcelito P. Platino, Acting Chief of the Police Regional Office’s Administrative Resource Management Unit (PARMU), gave an overview of regional career paths and specialized units within the PNP. “Our organization offers various roles beyond field work—from administrative support to intelligence work,” Platino said. “What matters is finding the right place to serve and grow.”
The program allowed students to ask questions and interact directly with officers, helping them understand the diverse pathways available in law enforcement. The event also reinforced the importance of preparation and adaptability as they transition from academics to public service.
The activity supported MSEUF’s mission to produce career-ready graduates with leadership skills and a commitment to national development. It aligned with the University’s vision of global competitiveness and reflected its core values of Excellence and Fortitude.
The program aligned with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 4 – Quality Education: The orientation provided career guidance and exposure to practical knowledge that complements academic learning, promoting informed decision-making for students’ long-term development.
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth: By connecting students with employment opportunities in the public sector, the program supported access to productive careers and lifelong employment options in law enforcement.
- SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: The activity encouraged the development of future law enforcers who are prepared to uphold justice and strengthen public institutions with ethical and well-informed service.
