In a significant step toward preserving the cultural identity of the Sariaya Heritage District, CARD Bank has adopted an Art Deco architectural design for its new branch, currently under construction. This move was made upon the recommendation of a heritage conservation team composed of the Sariaya Local Government Unit, Herencia Sariaya, and the College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA) of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation.

Through a series of consultations, CARD Bank’s architects worked closely with the team to ensure that the design of the new structure reflects the district’s historical character. The Art Deco style—a hallmark of 1920s and 1930s design known for its modernist flair, geometric forms, and refined ornamentation—was selected to harmonize with the town’s existing heritage structures while bringing a dignified modern presence.

“The intention is not just to build a bank, but to preserve the spirit of the place,” said one of the project leads, echoing the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) principle that defines Spirit of Place as the human-driven essence of a site, shaped by history, creativity, and ongoing care.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to conserve Sariaya’s built heritage and foster responsible urban development that celebrates local identity. The collaboration showcases how architecture and culture can intersect to shape a sustainable future for communities.
