CASA ABUELOS: A PROPOSED RETIREMENT HOME FOR THE ELDERLY

Completed2023

Abstract

Elderly people who are living independently and have been abandoned, abused, neglected, and in need of ongoing care have been documented in the Philippines. Along with these issues, other elderly-care institutions deal with different problems that need design intervention: overcrowding, outdated buildings, and ineffective space management. (Edralin, E. et al., 2015) This study promotes the elderly by elevating their standing in society by transforming their status from a burden into a productive sector that may contribute to social stability and economic growth. Additionally, this study focuses on the support for elder care that meaningful architecture can provide. It identifies and examines how architecture can serve as a platform for the promotion of care for the elderly. The Proposed Retirement Home for the Elderly is to be located at Brgy. Sampaloc Sto. Cristo, Sariaya, and Quezon seek to build an elderly community with such facilities and amenities using sustainable features and a tranquil setting that will promote well-being. On the other hand, a geriatric center will offer medical care and therapy to the elderly. The concept will start by addressing difficulties with Quezon Province's growing geriatric population and lack of medical facilities through innovative architectural design. These concepts can be applied to existing and future elderly housing facilities across the nation.
