Abstract

mpacts of information overload on students’ academic performance in the College of maritime education are examined to determine the positive and negative effects of information overload, to identify the best practices for managing too much information, to distinguish the significant relationship between information overload to students performance in his/her academics and the to understand the significant relationship between proper management of too much information and academic performance of the student. This study utilized the purposivedescriptive sampling research method where the collected data are treated using the Quantitative research method. Using the survey questionnaire, the students were asked how they perceived information overload and what practices they make to manage a vast amount of information to improve their academic performance. The result of this study determined how too much information overload can have an impact (positive or negative) on students’ academic performance. The result of this study helped the researchers to create an effective information management system and practices to manage information that will benefit the student to improve their academic performance. Information is a vital part of learning, students need the information to gain the necessary knowledge and skills for their academics, but too much information will clutter the mind and decrease the cognitive processing system. Information management is a significant aspect to perform remarkably. It provides organized and controlled intellect. Thus, the ability to manage information and the capability of the mind is a vital components of the effective academic performance of students.
