Level of Awareness of the Community to the Fire and Earthquake Drill of the BFP: A Basis for Information Campaign

Completed2021

Abstract

This study aims to identify the community's level of awareness of the fire and earthquake drill conducted by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel that served as the basis for how the survey was conducted. This helped the community raise awareness as fire and earthquake are destructive and even take one’s life in the worst-case scenario. It prevented to have casualties as the community gained knowledge on what to do when this kind of disaster occurs. For this study, the descriptive method is used to determine the level of awareness of the residents of Purok Pag-asa, Barangay Gulang-Gulang in the Fire and Earthquake drill performed by the BFP personnel, identifying the safest place nearby in the event of fire or earthquake, and identified the perceived problems encountered during the drill. The stratified random sampling is used to identify the 100 participants who answered the survey questionnaire provided by the researchers that served as the quantitative research. The gathered data has been forwarded to the BFP as their basis for the conduct of the drill, as mentioned above. The researchers concluded that most respondents were highly aware of fire and earthquake drills; thus, few did not know how to execute the actions needed during the abovementioned disaster. The researchers recommended posting basic signages and possible refreshers of both drills following the health and safety protocols to avoid the possible spread of the COVID-19 virus.
