LEVEL OF AWARENESS ON MARINE POLLUTION PREVENTION IN COASTAL AREA OF DALAHICAN, LUCENA CITY

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of awareness on marine pollution prevention of seafarers and non-seafarers in Dalahican Port, Lucena City. The gathering of data was conducted in Dalahican Port and Dalahican Coastal Areas. 25 seafarers and 25 non-seafarers or a total of 50 respondents answered the survey questionnaire that was familiar in causes, effects and problems of marine pollution. Results revealed that seafarers are more aware than non-seafarers in policies and regulation of marine pollution prevention. Thus, not only the seafarers must be aware on the causes and effects, problems because of marine pollution in marine environment; also the non-seafarers must be aware of it. Meanwhile, the research provided knowledge and information about policies and regulations in marine pollution prevention to the respondents to make them aware on it.
