Martial arts society brings hope to PDLs through gift-giving

The Criminology Martial Arts Society of the College of Criminal Justice and Criminology of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation conducted the “Your Wish is My Command” gift-giving initiative in 2025 at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Lucena City to fulfill personal wishes of persons deprived of liberty and promote dignity, hope and social reintegration.
Led by Myracel Jus-Ramos and Dennis Gonzales, the outreach aimed to uplift PDLs by responding to their simple needs, including basic necessities and items for their families.
Student volunteers engaged directly with beneficiaries, creating meaningful interactions that emphasized compassion, understanding and respect for human dignity.
“This initiative showed that even small acts of kindness can restore hope and dignity,” a student volunteer said. “It reminded us that everyone deserves compassion and a second chance.”
Organizers said the activity strengthened the connection between students and the community while reinforcing the importance of humane and inclusive approaches to justice.
The initiative also highlighted the role of academic institutions in supporting rehabilitation efforts through service-oriented programs.
The activity reflected the University’s core values of Service, Mindfulness and Fortitude by promoting compassion, empathy and social responsibility among students. It also supported transformative learning by exposing learners to real-world social issues and encouraging meaningful community engagement.
