CAS Social Sciences Society leads webinar on defense, education and sustainability


The CAS Social Sciences Society, in collaboration with the Department of Social Sciences, conducted the webinar “Philippines in a Global Village: Strategic Defense, Transformative Education, and Environmental Sustainability” on April 14, via Zoom to engage students, faculty members and partner organizations in discussions on national security, education and environmental action as part of Social Sciences Week 2026.
After nearly two months of preparation, the College of Arts and Sciences Social Sciences Society led the four-hour online event, which gathered students, faculty members and participants from various organizations.
The webinar served as a platform for dialogue on key national and global concerns. It also highlighted the dedication, coordination and teamwork of the CAS Social Sciences Society, which planned the activity to ensure an organized and meaningful program.
Lt. Mike Anthony Mogol PN discussed national security beyond warfare and emphasized the role of citizens in protecting the country’s sovereignty.
Dr. Gilbert Alva addressed the continuing learning crisis and stressed that education remains a national concern that requires collective action to achieve quality learning.
Arby Salamillas Lagman, through Josh Santiago, presented the University’s initiatives on environmental sustainability and encouraged students to help build safer and greener communities.
The webinar was conducted in partnership with the Psychological Science Society, Hospitality Management Society and Political Science Society. Other participating student groups included the Fine Arts Society, Junior Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines–MSEUF, Niels Mulder Scholarship Foundation, LIB.COM, MSEUF DOST Scholars’ Guild and Protect Every Tail Society.
Participants actively joined the discussions, showing strong interest in understanding complex social issues in an increasingly connected world. Although held online, the event promoted collaboration, knowledge-sharing and critical thinking among attendees.
The CAS Social Sciences Society thanked the resource speakers, partner organizations and participants for supporting the activity. The organization also allocated funds for the venue and meals of the working committees, ensuring that the team behind the webinar received proper support throughout the preparations.
The activity reflected MSEUF’s commitment to transformative, student-centered and outcomes-oriented education by encouraging learners to examine real-world issues through informed discussion and collective action. It also embodied the University’s core values of Mindfulness, Service, Excellence, Unity and Fortitude by promoting civic awareness, collaboration and responsibility toward the nation and the environment.
