Enverga Bar Flippers conduct food and beverage training for BJMP inmates
The Enverga Bar Flippers, a student organization of the College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management, conducted a Community Extension Service titled “Serve and Succeed: Food and Beverage Training” for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – Quezon District.
The activity aimed to equip persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) with basic food and beverage service skills that they can use as livelihood options after serving their sentences. The seminar covered essential topics such as basic table napkin folding, table skirting, proper table setup, and familiarization with different types of flatware and chinaware.
The training was conducted inside the Quezon District Jail, allowing participants to observe demonstrations and learn practical techniques related to hospitality service. Organizers said the initiative sought to provide PDLs with relevant and employable skills while promoting personal development and reintegration readiness.
Members of Enverga Bar Flippers assisted in preparing the activity by helping develop presentation materials and organizing the flatware, chinaware, table napkins, table linens, and glassware used during the demonstrations. Their participation ensured that speakers were able to deliver complete and effective hands-on instruction.
Organizers noted that the activity benefited both the PDLs, who gained new skills and confidence, and the student volunteers, who strengthened their sense of social responsibility and service through community engagement.
The activity supports Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation’s mission of community service and holistic education by translating classroom knowledge into meaningful outreach. It reflects the core values of Service through skills-based community engagement, Mindfulness by addressing reintegration needs of marginalized sectors, Unity through collaboration among students and partner institutions, and Excellence by applying professional hospitality standards in service learning.
