INSPIRE-EU Program: Building a Sustainable Research and Innovation Ecosystem

At Enverga University, the Research Publication, Incubation, and Utilization Center equips our research mentors and scholars with the necessary skills and essential tools to excel in academic publishing endeavors.

The year 2023 marked a milestone for the Research Publication, Incubation, and Utilization Center (RPIUC), established in August as a support office of MSEUF, dedicated to advancing the university’s research publication initiatives. Aiming to strengthen research capacity, encourage academic publishing, and foster innovation across the university, aligning closely with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

PUBLICATION ODYSSEY: The Primer, Unleashing the Researchers Toolbox

In 2023, the academic year began with the first training initiated by RPIUC— a foundational workshop that set the tone for the entire school year. In partnership with the Human Resource Department (HRD), the Research Publication, Incubation, and Utilization Center (RPIUC) introduced faculty, non-teaching personnel, and student researchers to practical tools and strategies for effective research publication.

Director Maño, serving as the resource speaker, shared her personal insights and tools that empowered participants to confidently navigate the complexities of academic publishing.

Following the foundational training, the program expanded to key departments and recognizing the tight schedules of faculty. The Director sought alternative workshop methods and initiated microtraining sessions designed to fit the availability of attendees and allowing a more flexible and accessible capacity-building across departments. These sessions featured seasoned mentors from the university as speakers, providing valuable insights and expertise.

RPIUC Launches Micro-Training Sessions with Esteemed Mentors

The Research Publication, Incubation, and Utilization Center (RPIUC) has officially kicked-off its first micro-training session on November 24, 2023, marking the beginning of a collaborative and multidisciplinary academic endeavor. The event featured esteemed mentors, Dr. Ronaldo Maaño and Prof. Jahzeel L. Sarmiento, who facilitated the initial session with participants and attendees representing the College of Education, the College of Criminal Justice and Criminology, the College of Maritime Education, and the College of Computing and Multimedia Studies.

These micro-training sessions are strategically designed to provide an adaptive solution to accommodate the varying schedules and availability of faculty members, ensuring inclusive participation and optimal engagement. By integrating innovative pedagogical approaches, the program seeks to equip participants with the competencies required to address contemporary challenges within their respective fields.

The launch of this initiative represents a pivotal milestone in fostering interdisciplinary engagement and promoting academic excellence at RPIUC. By encouraging meaningful interactions and shared learning experiences, the program is anticipated to yield a lasting impact on both faculty and students. Furthermore, it underscores the institution’s commitment to positioning itself as a leader in educational innovation and research-driven initiatives.

On November 30, 2023, Day 2 of the microtraining session, the College of Engineering and the College of Architecture and Fine Arts united to highlight the spirit of collaboration within the institution. Faculty and staff from both colleges engaged in activities that reinforced the Envergan mission and vision.

Special thanks to Prof. Maria Cecilia Jalbuena for emphasizing the importance of teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her inspiring message set the tone for an event focused on shared growth and success.

The active participation of everyone was vital in strengthening bonds between the two colleges and advancing institutional excellence, paving the way for future collaborative initiatives.

The first day of December marks a transformative occasion for the College of Business and Accountancy, the College of Criminal Justice and Criminology, the Basic Education Department, and the Office of Student Affairs and Services as the 3rd microtraining session continues. With the festive Christmas spirit in the air, Dr. Esteve Adrian Estiva and Dr. Ronaldo C. Maano highlighted the importance of taking small steps toward achieving success.

Their message reminded everyone that the collective involvement of faculty, staff, and students is key to advancing Envergan's mission and ensuring global competitiveness. As the year closes, this day serves as a renewed commitment to progress and excellence within the Envergan community.

RPIUC recognized the success and effectiveness of the microtraining workshop series and shifted its training approach accordingly. Moving away from one-size-fits-all sessions, the center adopted targeted microtraining and microlearning workshops that focus specifically on the unique needs of each department to enhance their research publication efforts, rather than relying on traditional, broad-based trainings.

Demistifying Engineeering Research Publications: A Practical Workshop

On February 15, 2024, during the University’s Foundation Week, the College of Engineering became the first beneficiary of RPIUC’s tailored microlearning workshop series. Although the program was not yet named IGNITE-EU, it embraced the same goals and methods. The College invited Director Maaño to help demystify their research publication process. Engr. Maaño shared best practices from the College of Computing and Multimedia Studies, which at the time led the university in research publications.

Faculty members were introduced to key publication platforms, indexing bodies, and relevant journals and conferences for submitting their work. They also participated in a hands-on workshop, tasked with creating publishable research papers—either refining previous work or developing new studies. The session proved insightful, fostering a valuable exchange of knowledge between speakers and participants.

The impact of this microtraining is evident today, as the College of Engineering now leads the university in the number of research publications.
