The Community Extension Services of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation conducted the “Hatid Lakas Kaalaman” program in Talim, Quezon in 2026 to train barangay tanods in basic self-defense skills and improve their preparedness in maintaining peace and order.

The program equipped participants with practical techniques that strengthened physical readiness, discipline and situational awareness in responding to potential threats and emergencies.

Facilitators guided barangay tanods through hands-on training sessions designed to build confidence and enhance their ability to act effectively in real-life situations.

“This training helped us feel more confident in handling difficult situations in our community,” a participating barangay tanod said.

Organizers said the initiative highlighted the vital role of barangay tanods as frontline community protectors and reinforced the importance of discipline and responsibility in public service.

The activity also strengthened community engagement by empowering local peacekeepers with essential skills that contribute to safer and more prepared neighborhoods.

The program reflected the University’s core values of Service, Fortitude and Mindfulness by extending practical training to communities and promoting responsible public service. It also supported transformative learning by applying institutional expertise to real-world community needs.

  • SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: The training strengthened community safety and supported local peacekeeping efforts.
  • SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being: Improved preparedness and safety awareness contributed to overall community well-being.
  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Collaboration between the University and local communities advanced shared development goals.
