CCJC, OSAS partner with PNP; hold drug awareness seminar

College of Criminal Justice and Criminology, in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), organized a Drug Awareness Seminar titled Edukasyon Kontra Droga  at the University Gymnasium, Feb. 28.

Pat. Adrian Florie B. Sanchez discussed the psychological and physiological effects of drugs on the human body. He also administered a short quiz to test Criminology students' knowledge of drugs and Republic Act 9165.

PCpl Joan Francesslynn B. Taradji spoke about the effects of tobacco and alcohol and explained how curiosity, family dynamics, and peer influence impact teenagers' and adults' decisions regarding these substances.

PCol Julian T. Olonan highlighted the role of the Tri-Bureau—comprising the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)—in maintaining peace and order.

Zhyril Abegail Perez, a Criminology student, expressed her appreciation for the seminar. "This activity is helpful because it adds to our initial knowledge about drugs and other related aspects," Perez said.

The collaboration between the College of Criminal Justice and Criminology, Junior Police Corps, Criminology Majors Association of Students, and OSAS underscored the importance of a collective effort to promote a drug-free and well-informed academic community.

The event supported Sustainable Development Goal 16 by promoting peaceful and inclusive societies and Sustainable Development Goal 17 by fostering partnerships for community awareness and action.
