[Features] From Tokyo to Osaka: A journey of dreams and discovery
Dreams took flight as 37 eager CIHTM students, led by their dedicated faculty chaperone, Mr. Denmark H. Catan, set out on a life-changing journey through the heart of Japan on November 20-25, 2024. This 6-day, 5-night international adventure, masterfully organized by Don’s Educ Travel and Tours, a DOT-accredited travel agency, was nothing short of extraordinary.
A 6-Day adventure through the Land of the Rising Sun began with Tokyo’s Electric Charm in the pulse of Shibuya Crossing, a whirlwind of lights, energy, and culture. The quirky vibes of Takeshita Street in Harajuku followed, offering a taste of Tokyo’s youthful, fashion-forward side. The following day made the participants experience the Magic of Tokyo Disney Resort that transported them to a world of enchantment. At Tokyo Disneyland, students explored lands of fantasy, braved thrilling rides, and immersed themselves in an atmosphere of pure joy. The next day, 37 students were introduced to Tokyo’s multifaceted marvels as they wandered through the historical streets of Asakusa, the cultural hub of Ueno, and the tech mecca of Akihabara, before diving into the vibrant nightlife of Shinjuku and Roppongi. Tokyo showed them its many faces; each more fascinating than the last.
The fourth through the last day of this adventure all took place in Osaka. The fourth day was a Shinkansen adventure to Osaka. The Shinkansen bullet train whisked the participants away to Osaka in record time. There, they dined and delighted in the neon-lit magic of Dotonbori and indulged in the shopper’s paradise of Shinsaibashi. Osaka’s historical heartbeat was the main agenda of the fifth day. The grandeur of Osaka Castle Park and the tranquil beauty of Tennoji reminded them of Japan’s deep historical roots and enduring traditions. Finally, they bid Farewell to Japan on the sixth day. The final day in Umeda and Shinsaibashi was a whirlwind of last-minute shopping and soaking in Japan’s vibrant spirit. It was hard to say goodbye, but the memories these 37 students created will last a lifetime.
“This trip wasn’t just about sightseeing, it was about broadening horizons, embracing new cultures, and forging unbreakable bond. For our students, it was a journey of growth, discovery, and inspiration in the global tourism and hospitality landscape. As Japan opened its doors, and we stepped into a world of wonder. Here’s to more journeys that inspire, educate, and transform”, Sir Den remarked.
As Dr. Jennifer B. Reyes, OIC of the Special Internationalization Projects stated "the EU FLIGHT program provided 37 CIHTM students with an immersive cultural experience in Japan, enhancing their global competency and understanding of diverse traditions. Through hands-on learning and real-world exposure, they gained valuable insights into the international tourism industry. The journey also fostered personal growth, independence, and lifelong memories, shaping them into globally minded future hospitality leaders."
