Two international students from the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) — Ms. Majekodunmi Debra Pelumi (BS Nursing) and Mr. Benito Frank Lacandola Shoup (BS Architecture) — participated in the regional forum titled “Embracing Global Connections Through SDGs,” held at De La Salle University - Dasmariñas, accompanied by their faculty-in-charge, Mr. Rey Marco Casiño, Guidance Counselor of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), Mar. 25.
The forum brought together students, educators, and experts from various higher education institutions to discuss the role of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in guiding internationalization and institutional development efforts in universities. The discussions centered on how educational institutions can shape their modernization strategies through values-driven, inclusive, and localized approaches to global challenges.
One of the key insights shared during the event was the importance of leveraging an institution’s distinct strengths rather than attempting to replicate the models of more prominent universities. This message resonated strongly with MSEUF participant Benito Frank Lacandola Shoup, who reflected:
“The speaker mentioned the idea of capitalizing on a given institution's strengths to better perform and increase the results of any given effort to modernize, internationalize, or simply to become a better university overall. I found this interesting and tried to apply it to MSEUF’s curricular narrative.”
For Ms. Debra Pelumi, the experience was both academically enriching and personally rewarding.
“It was a long journey, but a truly fulfilling one,” she shared, highlighting the value of engaging with students from other institutions and exchanging perspectives on sustainability and collaboration.
The participation of MSEUF’s international students affirms the university’s continuing efforts to contribute to global dialogues in education and sustainability. It reflects MSEUF’s alignment with SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by supporting student inclusion in international knowledge exchange and capacity-building initiatives.
This forum experience not only broadened the students’ global outlook but also reaffirmed the University’s mission to nurture globally competent graduates who are mindful of their social responsibilities and committed to sustainable development.
