Librarians and Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) students from Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF), led by Dr. Augusta Rosario Villamater, Director of University Libraries, attended the International Library Conference, held at Binus School Simprug, Jakarta, Indonesia, Oct. 2.

With the theme “Transforming Libraries: Shifting the Paradigm Towards Sustainability, Best Practices, SDGs, and AI Integration.” the event gathered experts, educators, and students from around the world to explore how libraries can embrace sustainable practices and incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) to improve services.

The MSEUF delegation, including Johanna Pauline Banuelos, Rosanna B. Bautista, Kim Davis Q. De Leon, Abigail Falogme, Christine Mae M. Frias, Danica H. Lanceta, Mary Rose Reyes, and King Vincent Salazar, participated in key discussions on sustainability, technology, and future trends in libraries.

The conference focused on how libraries can support global development by advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and adopting innovative technologies to enhance learning experiences.

A speaker from Europe underscored the importance of aligning library services with SDG 4 by promoting lifelong learning and ensuring access to quality education at all levels, including digital literacy. She also emphasized how SDG 11 encourages sustainable practices that improve urban living conditions and foster inclusive communities. For SDG 13, the discussion focused on the urgent need for climate action through mitigation strategies, emission reduction, and preparation for climate-related challenges.

This first international library conference hosted by Binus School was a platform for sharing best practices and fostering collaboration among participants. The event emphasized the vital role libraries play in promoting sustainability, improving education, and embracing new technologies.

MSEUF librarians expressed enthusiasm about applying the knowledge gained from the conference to enhance their library operations and develop sustainable initiatives. The event strengthened the university’s commitment to contributing to global goals through education and innovation.
