MSEUF sends off grads in 64th Commencement Exercises

After the Baccalaureate Mass presided by the University Chaplain Rev. Nelson L. Valle, 1,236 graduates were honored and recognized as they received their diplomas, certificates and awards during the 64th Commencement Exercises of the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation in Lucena City held April 11, 2011 at the University Gymnasium. This number includes 55 TESDA-registered training graduates, 118 bachelor degrees under the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP), 999 bachelor and associate degrees and 64 masters and professional degrees.

“Find your own Calcutta, what Mother Theresa taught about meaningful work and service.”

TESDA Director General Emmanuel Joel J. Villanueva, this year’s Commencement Speaker emphasized that the problem of our nation is neither corruption nor unemployment, but the feeling of hopelessness among Filipinos. In his speech, Hon. Villanueva told an anecdote of Mother Teresa and a young boy who wishes to join as a volunteer in India. “Find your own Calcutta!”, seems a callous response on its own but on second thought, it aptly describes what volunteerism and leadership development can be all about.

“Each of us has our own Calcutta in our own backyard, situations screaming for our attention. The nation needs us to advance the standard of living. Serve Quezon, serve the Philippines,” he said.

A former three-term representative under the CIBAC Partylist (Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption), where he authored and co-authored more than five hundred bills and resolutions, Director General Villanueva was awarded one of the Ten Outstanding Legislators of the Philippines in 2003 and 2005.

MSEUF President Madame Naila E. Leveriza distributed and awarded the diplomas and certificates. Various institutional and academic awards were bestowed to the outstanding graduates presented by the VP for Administration Madame Jazmin L. Enverga and Dr. Benilda N. Villenas, VP for Academic Affairs.

MSEUF Alumni Association President Atty. Antonio P. Acyatan inducted the new graduates to the organization, encouraging them to uphold voluntary participation and lifetime commitment to the University.
