Ateneo de Manila University captured the championship, dethroning the University of the Philippines - Diliman, which settled for the silver. A total of 21 colleges and universities competed, including a foreign school, namely the Singapore Management University, which placed third.
Enverga University ranked third during the NCR/Luzon eliminations held Sept. 21.
Force to be reckoned with
This year’s successful placing established Enverga University as a consistent top contender in the said annual competition. The president of the competition’s sponsoring organization, the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (JFINEX) commended MSEUF for its “unwavering” performance during the closing ceremonies.
In 2002, UP Diliman was all that stood between Enverga University and the top eliminations spot. MSEUF went on to become one of the 15 national finalists. The school repeated this performance in the following year’s eliminations, ranking third.
In 2004, Enverga University delivered its best yet, placing fourth overall in the national finals, surpassed only by UP, UST and Ateneo de Manila. MSEUF delivered a strong performance in the preceding eliminations, placing second only to Ateneo.
The year 2006 saw Enverga University finishing third yet again in the eliminations, buying another ticket to the finals.
For its performance, Enverga University received rave reviews in the FINEX Digest. An issue dated October 2002 specifically mentioned:
“Manuel S. Enverga University (Foundation), a first-timer based in Quezon Province, bested the score(s) of such name(d) schools as UST, San Beda and the University of Asia and the Pacific in the eliminations.”
Further, the article emphasized that:
“What is amazing is the performance of out-of-town schools. The performances of schools such as Central Luzon University, University of Bohol and MANUEL S. ENVERGA UNIVERSITY (Foundation), debunk the myth that Manila is the center of quality education. These schools, which many probably never heard of, have come out of nowhere to land in the finals.”
